St. Matthew's Lutheran Church is located in the small town of Delphi, Indiana and is faithful to the Holy Scriptures and to the Lutheran Confessions. We are a member of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. We grow together in God's Word through the Divine Service, Sunday School, and weekly Bible Studies.
"We Preach Christ Crucified!" stands as the heart and center of all Christian proclamation, drawn directly from St. Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 1:23. We do not offer human wisdom, moral improvement programs, or signs of earthly power, for such things the world seeks and the fallen mind demands. Instead, in faithful obedience to Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions, we boldly proclaim Christ Jesus and Him crucified—the incarnate Son of God who bore the full curse of our sin on the cross, suffering condemnation in our place to reconcile us to the Father. This message appears as foolishness and a stumbling block to unbelievers, yet to those called by the Gospel, it is nothing less than the power of God and the wisdom of God (1 Cor. 1:24).
Through this preaching—delivered in Word and Sacrament—sinners receive forgiveness, life, and salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, for apart from His atoning death there is no hope, and in His cross alone we find the full redemption of the world.
