Divine Service -- Sundays at 10:30 am
St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church gathers for the historic liturgy and hymns of the Lutheran Service Book. On Sundays and the feast days of the Church we celebrate the Divine Service with Holy Communion.
The Divine Service is distinguished by the two gifts our Lord has given His Church: Word and Sacrament.
In the Word, Christ Himself speaks to us through the reading and proclamation of Holy Scripture. In the Sacrament of the Altar, the same Christ gives us His true body and blood under the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation. Here the risen Lord is present among His people, distributing the very gifts He won for us on the cross.
This is not a performance or a program. It is the Lord’s own service to us—His Gottesdienst—in which He does the speaking and the giving, and we receive.
